MARSHALLTOWN — The Fairfield Swim Club took home 17 top-three finishes and one all-time state record from the YMCA state meet this past weekend in Marshalltown.

FHS sophomore Jessica Clements took first place at the Special Olympics Southeast Area Aquatics competition on Saturday at Ottumwa Beach. Clements’ time of 27.53 seconds in the 25-yard freestyle qualifies her to the state competition set for May 20 at Iowa State University in Ames. Clements was coached by Lorraine Hill.

Schools all around the state of Iowa took one step closer to football season with 2010-11 schedules being set in stone late last week.

Fairfield places six on all-SEC wrestling team

Following a seventh-place finish at the state tournament, Fairfield’s Dakota Simmons was named first team all-conference at 125 pounds joined by fellow state qualifiers Ryan Brewington (135) and Logan Metcalf (215).

SEC announces 2010-11 all-conference squads

Mount Pleasant, which will enter next week’s Class 3A state basketball tournament as the No. 1 seed, dominated the all-Southeast Conference team with three first team selections.
